Frequently Asked Questions
Where will my session take place?
I prefer natural-light settings. All sessions take place on-location: either outside at a location of your choice (I can help with choosing a spot if you'd like) in the Twin Cities & surrounding suburbs, or some sessions—such as newborn sessions—take place in your home.
Arrangements can be made to rent an indoor studio space for your session as well. If you prefer this option, please allow for 1-2 month notice to reserve studio space.
When should I schedule my newborn session?
It's never too early to schedule your newborn session! I recommend contacting me as soon as you find out you're expecting to ensure you get a spot on my calendar. Sessions take place within the first 5-10 days of your new baby's life, so we'll typically set something up for the weekend following your due date. If baby hasn't arrived yet (or comes early) we can always adjust the date as necessary.
How can I prepare for my newborn session?
On the day of your session, tidy up the room(s) we'll be taking photos in by stowing away any items that could be distracting in images.
Immediately before your session, please dress your newborn in a zip or button-up outfit (avoid anything that goes over their head). I recommend trying to keep your newborn awake for at least two hours beforehand to ensure a sleepier session. The sleepier your newborn is, the more photos we can get in while they snooze.
If you'd like some individual images of just your newborn at the session, prior to my arrival I ask that you clear a 10 x 10 foot space in front of the largest or brightest window in your home (sliding glass doors are perfect). As soon as I arrive I'll begin setting up. You may feed your newborn during this time. If you could provide me with a bottle and pacifier, this will help keep the session moving peacefully.
What should I wear?
It's important that you be yourself and feel comfortable. Try to avoid large or super busy patterns. You can spice up an outfit with accessories like jewelry, scarves and other fun things. Coordinate with your family or partner so that your styles and colors complement each other without being too uniform. And if you plan to hang your photos on a wall in your home, consider choosing colors that work well in that particular space. All clients receive my "Outfit Style Guide" upon booking their session.
What is your photo delivery turn around?
It honestly depends on my work load and how busy I am at the given moment, but it typically takes 2 weeks for sessions and 6 weeks for Weddings.
I am quality over quantity, so you'll know that I'm spending time polishing your photos to make them the best they can be.
How do you send your images?
I send your images through a private online gallery which is available for one calendar year from your date of your session day. You may download your image files, or even order prints directly from your gallery.
Do I have to order prints through you?
While I make it easy to preserve your memories by offering print ordering directly from your gallery, you are by no means required to order through me. Each gallery allows access to download high-resolution files and a print release so that you can print photos through the lab of your choice.
